Biography
The Village of Montour Falls Fire Department is lead by Fire Chief James P. Ryan He took command of the department on March 2002. He is Montour Falls 35th fire chief since the inception of the department in 1935.
A native of Broome County, New York and a graduate of Windsor High School, Chief Ryan began his fire service career in 1973 as volunteer in West Windsor, New York. He moved to the Schuyler County area in 1993 because of his job assignment with New York State. He currently is a Fire Investigator with the State’s Arson Bureau and is stationed out of the NYS Fire Academy in Montour Falls. He has been employed by the state since 1977.
Chief Ryan earned an Associate Degree in Fire Protection Technology from Broome Community College. He earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Fire Department Management from SUNY Empire State.
